Regardless of whether you’re a fan or a critic, there are valuable lessons to be learned from this football team. The Buckeyes exemplify resilience both on and off the field. They demonstrated the ability to overcome criticism after facing four consecutive losses to Michigan by learning from their mistakes and refocusing their efforts to pursue a championship. If you’re facing challenges right now, I hope this post serves as a source of encouragement for you.
B: **Brotherhood** - I was truly impressed by the unique bond formed among the class of 2021 recruits. Many of these players have shared the field together for four years, creating lasting relationships.
U: **Unity** - The University’s administration, the football team, and Buckeye Nation united to rise above their critics. Are you allowing negativity from others to affect you? I choose to rise above it.
C: **Christian Faith** - Several team members openly embraced their Christian beliefs, acknowledging that their loss to The Blue Team ignited their determination to win four consecutive playoff games against top-ranked opponents. Their faith provided strength during challenging times.
K: **Keep Fighting** - As Winston Churchill famously said, "Never, never, never give up!"
E: **Everyday Focus on Others** - Many Buckeyes dedicated their time to visiting sick children in hospitals, distributing food during Thanksgiving and Christmas, and engaging in various charitable activities.
Y: **16 Years Ago** - Seventeen years ago, my friends convinced me to visit an Ohio State restaurant while I wore my blue and yellow striped sweatsuit, completely unaware that those were Michigan colors. 😂 The owner offered me a $200 credit to buy Ohio State gear and get rid of my sweatsuit. That day, I became a fan! 🤣
E: **Everyone Matters** - Ryan Day’s impressive record of 70-10 reflects his belief that everyone has an impact and plays a role in the team's success.
S: **Sports** - Sports have a profound influence on the lives of student-athletes. Throughout my 33 years as a classroom teacher, dean, school counselor, and life design coach, I’ve encouraged young people across various countries to engage in sports. They teach the invaluable lesson that when you get knocked down, true grit means getting back up. If you’re feeling discouraged, remember that you matter—someone needs you in their classroom of life!
