Can’t We All Get Along?

Harry Armer, an exceptional math teacher and former player for Michigan's 1991-92 basketball team, revolutionized college basketball with his team's athleticism, confidence, and distinctive style. The starting lineup—Jalen Rose, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King, and Ray Jackson—became known as the 'Fab 5.' Although they never clinched an NCAA Championship, their legacy as an iconic team endures. Harry mused, “It was like watching a highlight reel during practice!” 😂 🏀

Afterward, I congratulated him on Michigan’s recent victory over my beloved Buckeyes 🏈.  He acknowledged it was a tough match, and we both felt Ohio State played right into Michigan’s strategy by relying too heavily on the run game, neglecting their talented receiving corps, which Coach Day should have utilized more. In my view, it was a flawed game plan.

Our conversation took a serious turn as we discussed the disappointing behavior of some college football players who chose to set a poor example for their families, friends, and especially the younger fans who look up to them by engaging in fights after games. Such poor sportsmanship is unacceptable, particularly when these athletes are role models for aspiring players who admire them.

I’ve heard that NCAA football officials are planning to impose sanctions or penalties on players who continue to make these misguided choices in the future. What are your thoughts? What penalties do you think should be enforced for fights on the field or in any sport?

Let’s hope this year’s inaugural 12-team playoff features unforgettable games that remain free of any disgraceful altercations.

Coach N. 😊🏈
