In the past week of this new school year, I've encountered several middle schoolers overwhelmed by anxiety. In various situations, I felt it necessary to intervene or ensure that a student was referred to a mental health facility for their safety. This raises an important question: why is anxiety so prevalent among young people today? Potential factors include excessive cell phone use, rising rates of depression, and a lack of meaningful friendships and family support to help them navigate challenging times.
As I reflected on different passages from the Bible and listened to various Christian broadcasts this week, it became clear to me that love is the key to addressing these issues. The love of God should be shared more widely to combat anxiety, depression, family struggles, and other challenges individuals face. As stated in John 3:16, this love has the power to transform lives.
About 31.9% of U.S. adolescents aged 13 to 18 experience an anxiety disorder, making it the most common mental health condition in this age group. Recent federal data shows that roughly 1 in 5 teens report current, short-term symptoms of anxiety, and diagnosed cases among young people continue to rise significantly.
