One of my favorite laid-back summer activities while I’m off from school is watching the Wimbledon tennis tournament. It’s a bucket list goal of mine not only to visit Italy next summer but also to spend two or three days at Wimbledon.
While watching the match between Italy's Jannik Sinner, the top-ranked player, and Germany's Alexander Zverev, the second-ranked player, I witnessed something I’ve never seen in over 45 years of watching Wimbledon. Zverev slipped on the worn grass after two weeks of intense play, and Sinner made his way around the net to help him up.
This moment stood out because, despite competing for millions of dollars and the prestigious Wimbledon title, Sinner prioritized kindness and sportsmanship. It raises the question: why can’t we see more of this spirit of cooperation and support among individuals and nations? This example serves as a reminder that we can all strive to be a positive influence in our everyday lives.
Every day, it seems we’re bombarded with negativity in the news, which can become quite monotonous. However, I admire that ABC News always wraps up their broadcasts with something positive. We should all aim to end each day on a hopeful note, finding ways to uplift ourselves and those around us.
How do you think we could encourage more positivity in our daily interactions?
