Living in Florida in Hurricane Season

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind of fear, anxiety, sorrow, and gratitude. Living in Florida during hurricane season, which runs from June 1st to November 30th, can be quite challenging. Thankfully, my condo complex is situated inland in Sarasota and is also in a non-flood zone.

On the other hand, I've heard chilling accounts from coworkers and friends whose homes suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Helene, and now we brace for the potential impact of Hurricane Milton, which is headed straight for the heart of the Sunshine State.

My heartfelt prayers go out to families still recovering from the aftermath of Helene. In recent days, I’ve been able to support three families by providing food and connecting them with resources from local organizations.

As you read this message, I hope you are either praying for or extending a helping hand to those in need.

Here’s the latest tally of fatalities by state, according to CNN:
- North Carolina: 56
- South Carolina: 30
- Georgia: 25
- Florida: 11
- Tennessee: 6
- Virginia: 2
